Leader: O God, it’s hard to come home
People: We ran away because we couldn’t see past our own wants. We ran away because we were angry. We ran away because we felt unloved.
Leader: It’s hard to come home
People: We ran away because no one listened: our fears fell on deaf ears and our dreams the stuff of jokes. We ran away because we gave up, surrendered to our fate, accepted our defeat and were conquered by forces beyond our control
Leader: It’s hard to come home
People: Hard to swallow our pride, admit our mistakes, hard to see beyond our own wants. Hard to come back home.
Leader: Hard, because we dread finding out no one missed us or is waiting to welcome us home. Hard to face the consequences of our choices, to come to our senses, dust ourselves off and begin the trek back home
People: We are coming home, Lord Jesus, slowly, haltingly, conflicted, reluctantly, still wanting to negotiate our relationship with you. We are coming home, Lord Jesus.
Leader: Look!! What do we see? Who is running toward us, arms and heart and life, open to receive us, not caring what others think?
People: You are running to greet us, Lord Jesus, running with arms full of love, a heart overflowing with forgiveness, a life given to give us life, willing to sacrifice everything to have us with you. Running to welcome us home, making us part of the family again, restoring our place at Your Table.
Leader: It is good to be Home, Lord Jesus, Home where we belong.
People: Home in you, the One who welcomes back all who wander. Amen.

We ask that you bless and use us and all that we bring so we may share the news of your love which restores all who seek a place at the table of your unconditional love. We ask this through Christ Jesus, our Lord. Amen.
